Blueprint Biz Advice

A conviction before a pitch deck

"We refuse to advise any company whose leadership team isn't willing to hear uncomfortable truths about their own operating model."

The founding commitment of Blueprint Biz Advice, written in 2019 and unchanged since.

Business Consulting built on six working principles

Principle one: Diagnosis before prescription

We spend the first two weeks inside your business observing, interviewing and mapping workflows. No recommendations appear until we understand what actually happens, not what the org chart says should happen.

Principle two: Revenue is a result, not a goal

When a company fixes its decision-making speed, its hiring accuracy and its product-market feedback loops, revenue follows. We work on the causes. The numbers take care of themselves.

Principle three: Every engagement has an end date

Consulting firms that make themselves indispensable are selling dependency. We scope every project with a hard finish, a handover plan and a 90-day check-in call. Then we leave.

Principle four: Small teams, senior people

You will never receive a squad of junior analysts. Our engagements involve two or three people, each with at least twelve years of operating experience in their discipline.

Principle five: We say no more than we say yes

About half the companies that approach us are not a good fit. That is fine. A short, honest conversation saves everyone months of wasted effort and tens of thousands of pounds.

Principle six: Proof lives in the P&L

Slide decks don't count. Strategy documents don't count. The only proof that consulting worked is a measurable change in the client's financial or operational performance within six months.

"They told us our pricing model was broken in week one. We resisted for a month. Then we ran the numbers and realised they were right. Margins went from 11% to 23% within a quarter."— Finance director, mid-market SaaS company, Manchester

Is this the right fit?

We are selective about the companies we work with. Not because we are precious, but because consulting only works when both sides commit fully. Here is an honest breakdown.

We are a good fit if

  • Your annual revenue sits between £2m and £50m
  • The founder or CEO will be directly involved in sessions
  • You have a specific operational problem, not a vague desire to "grow"
  • You can allocate two hours per week for the engagement period
  • You are willing to share real financial data with us under NDA

We are probably not a good fit if

  • You want a 100-page strategy document to present to investors
  • Your primary goal is brand perception rather than operational change
  • Decision-making authority sits with a board that won't participate
  • You need results in under four weeks

Why principles matter more than frameworks

Most consulting firms lead with methodology. They have proprietary frameworks with trademarked names, colourful diagrams and training certifications. We have tried that approach. It produces impressive presentations and mediocre outcomes.

The reason is simple: frameworks assume the problem is standard. A four-quadrant matrix works when the situation matches the matrix. But businesses rarely sit neatly inside a quadrant. They sprawl across several, with contradictions that no diagram can resolve.

Principles are different. A principle like "diagnosis before prescription" doesn't tell you what to do. It tells you what to resist doing. That distinction matters. When a CEO pressures us to deliver recommendations in week one, the principle holds us back. We observe longer. We ask harder questions. And the eventual recommendation is sharper because of it.

We have seen engagements where the initial brief was "fix our sales process" and the actual problem turned out to be a founder who couldn't delegate product decisions. No framework would have caught that. Patient observation did.

"I hired them to sort out our supply chain. Three weeks in, they told me the supply chain was fine but my management team was making decisions by committee and nothing was sticking. Painful to hear. Completely accurate."

— Operations lead, food manufacturing, Birmingham

Our work happens in meeting rooms, on factory floors, inside CRM dashboards and across spreadsheets that haven't been updated in months. It is not glamorous. It is thorough.

The photograph here is from a real diagnostic session at a logistics company in the Midlands. Whiteboards, sticky notes, a laptop showing live margin data. That is what consulting looks like when it works.

Three decisions you need to make before calling us

Consulting is an investment of money, time and organisational energy. These questions help you decide whether the investment makes sense right now.

Decision one: Can you name the problem?

If you can describe the specific pain in two sentences, we can probably help. "Revenue is flat and I don't know why" is specific enough. "We want to be more innovative" is not. Clarity on the problem is the minimum entry point.

Decision two: Will the right people participate?

We need access to the people who make decisions and the people who do the work. If middle management will attend but the CEO won't, the engagement will stall. We have walked away from projects where this access was promised and then withdrawn.

Decision three: Are you ready to act on findings?

A diagnostic is only useful if the company is prepared to change something. We deliver honest assessments. Some of those assessments require difficult conversations, restructuring, or killing a product line. If the answer to every hard recommendation is "not right now," consulting becomes expensive shelf decoration.

"The go-to-market restructure took eight weeks. Within five months our pipeline value had increased by 40% and our close rate improved from one in seven to one in four. Those are real numbers from our CRM, not estimates."— Head of sales, B2B technology firm, Leeds
